As a proud resident of the wildgroei project at De Serre I will grow wildely and experiment with visual narratives. Specifically I explore how visual materials can strengthen a story. How photos or filmfragments can reach a person, spark their senses and bring them to the origin of that story.

VRT NOMADEN // COMING THIS NOVEMBER: Currently I’m working on a documentary in Cyprus, exploring the dividing line that splits the island. Greek and Turkish Cypriots live seperated from each other, with an ongoing Turkish influence in the North. Tensions are growing. How do these complex dynamics shape the lives of the people caught between them?

At the beginning of the Ukrainian war, I helped set up the Ukranian refugee shelter in Hasselt, where I was in daily contact with Ukrainians fleeing the conflict. People arrived without a coat or shoes, carrying their belongings in a plastic bag. They left not only their homes but also their language, culture, and community behind, finding themselves in a new reality. Together with them, I searched for their place in Belgium, an unfamiliar world for them.

Together with ADR Vlaanderen I traveled through Romania during my studies, focussing on (difficulties of) caring initiatives and citizen participation in smaller villages. The journey impacted me, strengthening my interests in interconnected worlds and disparities in well-being. This experience shaped me and forms the basis for my work and motivation as a journalist and anthropologist.

Personal account during my trip:

"Visiting the Roma Community left me feeling shattered. The harsh realities of daily life, fighting against damp buildings, searching for warmth and the constant struggle with health stood in strong contrast to a certain sense of freedom and agency. A life undecided by the rigid structures of bureaucratic societies."
